Study Abroad Programs for MIMG Students
MIMG students should work with Study Abroad Advisors, MIMG Advisors, and Advisors from their College Counseling Unit to make a study abroad plan that works with their graduation timeline.
Steps to Get Started in Study Abroad
- Explore UCLA study abroad programs, especially programs with coursework in biological sciences and/or programs with pre-health coursework (see recommendations below).
- Schedule a virtual office hours appointment with a UCEAP/study abroad advisor. Prepare for study abroad advising by exploring programs of interest (see below) and thinking about your goals and timeline for study abroad.
- Visit the UCLA International Education Office.
- After confirming a program of interest, connect with MIMG major advisors and Advisors from your College Counseling Unit to discuss your course planning.
Study Abroad Programs of Interest to MIMG Students
UCEAP offers over 80 programs worldwide with coursework in biological sciences! Explore study abroad programs with coursework in the biological sciences.
Program Spotlights:
- Complete Physics 5A & 5B in either Dublin or Glasgow over summer (MIMG pre-major requirements).
- Biological and Life Sciences, Maastricht, Netherlands Collaborate in student groups to analyze real-world problems, set learning goals, and engage in an independent research project while you engage in biological science courses.
- Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, KAIST, Korea Engage with professors and peers in small biology classes taught in English at Korea's first public, research-oriented, science and engineering institution.
- Mahidol University International College, Thailand Study in an American-style college close to Bangkok. Course topics include biomedical science, biotechnology, genetics, health and wellness, and more.
- University of Manchester, UK-England Access excellent course offerings within biological sciences covering topics like genetics, medical biology, pharmacology, and more. The large bioscience community means there will be plentiful opportunities for you to find your niche.

Non-Major Requirements
If you plan to take courses abroad to fulfill non-major requirements (such as GEs), contact your College Counseling Unit.
MIMG Major Requirements
If you're interested in taking courses abroad to fulfill MIMG Requirements, please note that most international courses do not fulfill MIMG Major Requirements. However, you may petition for a course taken abroad to count toward MIMG major requirements if it meets these criteria:
- The course is UC-transferable
- The course is upper division
- The course is worth at least 4 quarter units
- The course is in the MIMG subject area
