Graduate Student Christopher Luthers receives the John W. Phillips Legacy Award
We are thrilled to announce that the distinguished John W. Phillips Legacy Award has been granted to Christopher Luthers (Dr. Donald B. Khon’s Lab) this year. This prestigious award, valued at $2,500, is presented in honor of Dr. John W. Phillips. It recognizes graduate students working within our Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics who excel not only in research but also in teaching, mentoring, and promoting diversity and equity.
Christopher Luthers is a rising 5th year Molecular Biology PhD student in the lab of Dr. Donald Kohn of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG). Christopher’s research focuses on the editing of blood stem cells for the development of treatments for immune deficiencies. Outside of research, Christopher is committed to improving the lives of underrepresented minority students through mentorship, volunteering, and serving as a member of various UCLA and Los Angeles nonprofit organizations. The award is an outstanding recognition of his efforts, and serves as continued evidence that no matter what, "science is for everyone” shares Christopher.
