Drs. Gunsalus and Zhou solve the structure of the Methanospirillum Hungatei Sheath
The labs of Dr. Rob Gunsalus and Dr. Hong Zhou solved the structure of the Methanospirillum hungatei sheath using a combination of CryoEM and alpha fold protein prediction methods. The protein sheath cylinder consists of axially stacked β-hoops, each of which is comprised of two to six 400 nm-diameter rings of β-strand arches (β-rings). The structure shows similarities but also differences from amyloid cross-β fibril architecture.
