Anthony J. Covarrubias in lab

MIMG Faculty member Dr. Anthony Covarrubias recently received a $2 million NIGMS Maximizing Investigator's Research Award (MIRA). The goal of MIRA is to increase the efficiency of NIGMS funding by providing investigators with greater stability and flexibility, thereby enhancing scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs. The program will also help distribute funding more widely among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators.

Dr. Covarrubias shares with us how the award will support in his efforts to investigate cellular senescence in macrophages and its broader impacts on multiple biological areas, including basic cell biology, genetics, and the immune system. Additionally, this research aims to pave the way for developing targeted therapies for diseases impacted by cellular senescence, such as aging, metabolic disease, and cancer.

Congratulations to Dr. Covarrubias, and best wishes for your continued success!
