Enrollment Support (MIMG Majors)

Enrollment Support (Non-MIMG Majors)

  • MIMG does not offer PTE numbers, and we cannot guarantee enrollment in any MIMG courses. MIMG cannot add additional seats for any courses to accommodate additional students. 

  • Please check MIMG enrollment details by course/quarter below. Most MIMG courses* open to non-majors the day after the last second pass appointment, space permitting (between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM). MIMG courses are restricted to MIMG majors during first and second pass. Please see UCLA's Enrollment Appointments for accurate appointment times.  

  • Unable to enroll in a needed MIMG course?

    • If you have a requisite error or other technical error, please email undergrad@microbio.ucla.edu with your UID and explain the technical issue. If appropriate, please include proof of the completed requisite course. If you are experiencing an enrollment issue that requires support, we will directly enroll students if possible and if space permits. Students must ensure that all holds are clear prior to requesting enrollment support and must have units available for enrollment. 

    • Please check in on the course through the first week of the quarter to see if a spot opens for a desired MIMG course.

    • Please check in with your department advisor and/or college advisor for guidance. If unable to enroll, we recommend reaching out to the professional schools to let them know that not all UCLA students are able to enroll in their technically required courses.

Winter 2027 Quarter - MIMG Enrollment by Course: 

  • MIMG 101 - Introductory Microbiology
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, 7C, and 7L) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, 7C, and 7L) the day after second pass (Wednesday, November 18th, 2026 between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM).
    • Note for Senior Pre-Optometry and/or Pre-Nursing students: 
      • There is a final exam conflict with PHYSCI 3 and MIMG 101 this Winter quarter. If you are a graduating Pre-Optometry or Pre-Nursing student enrolled in MIMG 101 who must also take PHYSCI 3 in Winter '27 quarter, please email MIMG advisors at undergrad@microbio.ucla.edu with your UID and final exam availability to request an alternate time for the MIMG 101 Winter '27 final exam. 
  • MIMG 102: Introductory Virology 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L) the day after second pass (Wednesday, November 18th, 2026 between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM).
  • MIMG 109AL: Research Immersion Lab in Microbiology
    • MIMG seniors graduating in Spring 2027 or Summer 2027 MUST enroll in MIMG 109AL in their first-pass of enrollment if not currently or previously enrolled in Path 1 or Path 2 courses. 
    • Open to MIMG seniors meeting requisites (MIMG 101) during first pass.
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (MIMG 101) during second pass.
    • Non-MIMG majors may NOT enroll in this course. There are no exceptions. 
    • Enrolled students must enroll in MIMG 109BL in Spring 2027 quarter (MIMG 109BL is tentatively scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays 2:00 - 4:50 PM in Spring 2027 quarter). This is a cohort/connected series. 
  • MIMG 109BL: Advanced Research Analysis in Microbiology
    • Open to students enrolled in MIMG 109AL in Fall 2026 quarter. This is a cohort/connected series. MIMG 109AL Fall '26 students can safely enroll in MIMG 109BL in their second pass of enrollment. 
    • Non-MIMG majors may NOT enroll in this course. There are no exceptions. 
  • MIMG CM156: Human Genetics 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, 7C, and 7L)  during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, 7C, and 7L)  the day after second pass (Wednesday, November 18th, 2026 between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM).
  • MIMG 158: Microbial Genomics 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisite (CHEM 153A) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisite (CHEM 153A)  the day after second pass (Wednesday, November 18th, 2026 between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM).
  • MIMG 168: Molecular Parasitology 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L)  the day after second pass (Wednesday, November 18th, 2026 between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM).
  • MIMG 185A: Immunology
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L, CHEM 153A) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L, CHEM 153A)  the day after second pass (Wednesday, November 18th, 2026 between approximately 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM).

Spring 2027 Quarter - MIMG Enrollment by Course:

  • MIMG 100L: Microbiology Lab for Prof. Schools (non-MIMG majors only)
    • Open to all NON-MIMG students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, 7C, and 7L) beginning first pass.
    • MIMG majors may NOT enroll in this course (as Path 1 courses cover this content and additional skills). Path 1 courses will fulfill Pre-Health Microbiology lab requirements for Pre-Health professional schools as well. 
  • MIMG 103AL: Research Immersion Lab in Virology
    • MIMG seniors graduating in Fall 2027 MUST enroll in MIMG 109AL in their first-pass of enrollment if not currently or previously enrolled in Path 1 or Path 2 courses. 
    • Open to MIMG seniors meeting requisites during first pass.
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites during second pass.
    • Enrolled students must enroll in MIMG 103BL in Fall 2027 quarter. 
    • Non-MIMG majors may NOT enroll in this course. There are no exceptions. 
  • MIMG 109BL: Adv. Research Investigation Microbiology 
    • Open to students enrolled in MIMG 109AL in Winter 2027 quarter. 
    • Non-MIMG majors may NOT enroll in this course. There are no exceptions. 
    • MIMG 109AL Winter '27 students can safely enroll in MIMG 109BL in their second pass of enrollment. This is a cohort/connected series. 
  • MIMG C122: Mouse Molecular Genetics
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, 7C) beginning first pass. Students conducting research with mice are especially encouraged to enroll.
  • MIMG 132: Cell Biology of the Nucleus 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisite (LIFESCI 107) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisite (LIFESCI 107) the day after second pass (usually a Wednesday between 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM noon).
  • MIMG C134: Ethics and Accountability in Biomedical Research
    • Requires instructor consent. For inquiries, please email MIMG advisors at undergrad@microbo.ucla.edu. Designed for graduate students and undergraduates who have credit for life sciences or biomedical individual studies 199 course (i.e. MIMG 199).
  • MIMG 170: Cell and Gene Therapy 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (CHEM 153A and LIFESCI 107) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (CHEM 153A and LIFESCI 107)  the day after second pass (usually a Wednesday between 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM noon).
  • MIMG 185A: Immunology 
    • Open to MIMG majors meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L, CHEM 153A) during first and second pass.
    • Open to all students meeting requisites (LIFESCI 7A, 7B, and 7L, CHEM 153A) the day after second pass (usually a Wednesday between 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM noon).
  • MIMG 192: UG Practicum in MIMG

Waitlists

Students on waitlists for MIMG course are not guaranteed enrollment. MIMG cannot add additional seats for any courses to accommodate additional students. 

If waitlisted, please monitor the course during the first week of instruction to see if other students drop (especially if are first or higher on the waitlist). Please also ensure that you are eligible to enroll for the course and don't have any holds.

Unless sufficient students drop a course before the UCLA drop deadline, waitlisted students will be dropped from the MIMG course waitlisted at the UCLA drop deadline (Friday of Week 2). 

Switching Sections in an MIMG Course

If students are enrolled in an MIMG course and want to "switch" discussion or lab sections with another enrolled student, it is possible to "switch". These switches must be facilitated by MIMG students (students must find other enrolled students looking to switch and communicate themselves), although some MIMG courses may have resources for students looking to switch. 

To request a section switch with another enrolled student in an MIMG course (courses offered by our department with "MIMG" in the title, such as MIMG 101), please follow these steps:

  1. First, confirm with the another student that they agree to the switch.
  2. Email the MIMG Advisors at undergrad@microbio.ucla.edu with:
    • The other student copied (CC'd) on the email
    • Both students' UID numbers
    • Current sections and the requested new sections for each student (e.g., Joe Bruin hopes to switch from 1D to 1A and Josie Bruin hopes to switch from 1A to 1D)
  3. The second student will respond to the email thread and confirm the switch. (Or, the second student can repeat step 2 above to send another email to confirm). 

  4. Once MIMG advisors receive an email from each student, MIMG advisors will process the switch as soon as possible and will confirm with the students. 

    Important notes: 

    • The other student(s) must reply to confirm the switch, and, remember, we must have both students' UIDs.
    • Verify that the new section times don't conflict with any of your other courses.
    • Switches will not be processed if there are schedule conflicts. If students have explanations or exceptions for conflicts, these should be noted in the email.
    • Section switches should be requested as soon as possible, no later than before noon of the drop deadline for the course (i.e. noon on Friday of Week 2).
